An Independent Film Production Company called Arcana Films in Newark, Ohio is set to begin production on BYW: The Movie in mid- to late-2015. They are currently looking for actual BYW wrestlers to star in the film and get word out that BYW is NOT a bad passtime and that we are here to stay. Here is the synopsis for the film:
Despite the fact that professional promotions have urged fans of the sport to refrain from duplicating what they see on televisions, backyard wrestling (BYW) federations continue to spring up all over the planet. These “feds” are often comprised of young men and women between the ages of fourteen and thirty. These are the individuals who are either very passionate about the wrestling industry or those shunned by the rest of society. But, for a few hours a week, they are gods of violence.
For years, backyard wrestling has been a subject of opposition to pro wrestling personnel. Its peak years of high popularity were from 1996-2001, during the boom period of professional wrestling notorious as The Attitude Era, a time where high risk stunts were a prevalent influence on the wrestling fan base, most notably those performed by wrestling legend Mick Foley. Back in the late 1980s to early 1990s, backyard wrestling was often a good-natured topic which appealed to media for coverage until it periodically turned reckless and ultra-violent, worrying parents and wrestling companies. In response, WWE began airing advertisements, stressing the dangers and deterring their fans from duplicating the actions seen in their ring.
“BYW: THE MOVIE” examines this underground phenomenon and reveals to the world a side of these people never before seen by the public or anybody outside the BYW world. Through the fictitious Backyard Wrestling Coalition (B.W.C.) − made up of actual backyard wrestlers − the world will have the opportunity to break through the BYW kayfabe and glimpse this real-life fight club with the most accurate and intimate look ever captured on film.
